Mark L. MacKizer retired after a 27-year career as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), with the last 7 years of his career spent as Supervisory Special Agent assigned to Behavioral Analysis Unit 3 (BAU-3), Quantico, Virginia. At the BAU, he was responsible for providing behaviorally based operational support and training to law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation of violent crimes. In addition, Mark contributed to BAU-3’s quantitative research of crimes involving child victimization to enhance operational support for law enforcement. Mark co-authored the 3rd edition of the FBI’s Child Abduction Response Plan: An Investigative Guide for Law Enforcement. Mark is also published in journals such as the Journal of Threat Assessment and Management and Aggression and Violent Behavior.
Prior to Mark’s assignment to BAU-3, he held a variety of positions in the FBI’s Richmond, Virginia field office including Special Weapons and Tactics Team operator, Evidence Response Team member, Crisis Management coordinator, and Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force coordinator. For 20 years as a field agent, he conducted violent crime investigations, in coordination with state and local law enforcement. Mark also served as the team leader for the FBI’s Southeast Child Abduction Rapid Deployment Team, which was responsible for providing on-site investigative consultations to law enforcement agencies in the Southeast region of the United States during active child abduction or mysterious child disappearance investigations.
Upon retiring from the FBI, Mark founded MacKizer Behavioral Analysis Consulting where he continues to provide behaviorally based operational support and training for government and private sector clients. Mark is a principle in Empathy Based Interrogation, a conversational, non-confrontational, research-based interview training program.
Mark has a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in psychology from the State University of New York Buffalo State University.
